About us

Welcome to the Image Library of the Ashmolean, the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683. Our world famous collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art, telling human stories across cultures and across time.

You can browse more than 20,000 images on our image library site, which are all available to licence for a variety of uses. If you cannot find what you are looking for, our experienced Picture Library team have an excellent knowledge of our collections, so they can help you find the perfect image. They can gather existing images on the site, add more images to the system, or arrange for new scans of archive images or new object photography. They can also help with any bespoke licence requirements, and with information about how to licence images of works loaned to the museum, or images of works in our collection by artists that are still in copyright.
